In 2010, Sophia established the Basil Skyers Myeloma Foundation as an independent charity in memory of her brother and only sibling who died of the blood cancer multiple myeloma.  The Foundation provides services and practical support for patients, their families and carers. 

The Foundation which comprised a governing board of haematology consultants and clinical nurse specialist from across the UK is now managed by Nottinghamshire Community Foundation with the primary aim of growing it to build a permanent legacy in support of patients and clinical research work across the East Midlands region and the UK.
